There is more than enough raw material for pellets!
The national forest stocktaking brought it to the light. In North Rhine-Westphalia far more wood regenerates than is used. 30% of the increase in wood in our forests are not used and lead to a structure of supply.
Additionally, in sawmills the resulting remainder wood could be energetically used - in North Rhine-Westphalia it amounts to over 900,000 cubic meters.
Alone by this use of the remainder wood approx. 125 millions litre fuel oil could be saved. This number corresponds to the power requirement of 40.000 single family houses.

A safe supply of pellets from the region is secured.
Pellets are made of 100% pure spruce. The restriction to this particularly long-fibrous wood makes an optimal pressing possible.
In the sawmills of pellet production altogether approx. 200,000 solid cubic meters fir wood are cut, the resulting sawdust is being pelletized.
The following pictures clarify the relation between the used round timber and the produced pellets.

The shown truck is loaded with approx. 33 solid cubic meters long timber.

The rough round timber is without bark in the sawmill, approx. 4 rm crust result from the 33 cubic meters.
The pieces which result from cutting the trunks for further production amount to approx. 2 rm.

From the 30 CUBIC METRE round timber 16.3 m ³ building timber (roof framings)are cut.
3.5 m ³ boards are made.

The wood chips milled off directly by the splinter plant amount to 26 pilling m3 (8.4 tons); these are supplied either to the cellulose or wood-based materials industry (chip board), or used in wood chips heating systems.

When cutting the timbers 14 pilling m3 (3.8 tons with 50%W) of sawdust result.

From this sawdust (14 srm) approx. 2 tons of pellets are pressed.
After burning 6 kg ash develops. Only 0.3% of the burned pellets.

An optimal utilization of the wood!!
